Second Workshop on Private Sector Engagement in Nature Restoration at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
On June 17th 2025 the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) held the workshop “Protected areas for biodiversity and ecosystem functioning: an opportunity for investment?” focusing on the role of the private sector in nature conservation and ecological restoration. Organized in collaboration with Highlands Rewilding and the REST-COAST project, the event examined how businesses can both contribute to and benefit from investments in natural ecosystems.
Spanning diverse environments—from the rugged terrain of the Scottish Highlands to the dynamic wetlands of the Venice Lagoon—the workshop offered a unique platform for interdisciplinary dialogue. Researchers, environmental experts, and private sector representatives came together to explore actionable strategies, critical needs, and the enabling conditions required to make nature-based investments more attractive and viable for businesses.
