Nature-based solutions (NbS) and innovative financing mechanisms for climate resilience and biodiversity restoration will be at the centre of two official partner events of EU Green Week 2026, where the NATURANCE project will contribute to discussions on insurance, adaptation finance, and resilience-building strategies.
The first event, “Unlocking nature’s potential across the budget lines”, will take place on 2 June 2026 in Brussels in a hybrid format. Organised with the support of NetworkNature and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the session will explore how public and private investments can be strategically aligned to support the wider deployment of NbS across sectors.
The discussion will focus on the multifunctional role of nature-based approaches, including their contribution to climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, water management, public health, and circular economy objectives. Through practical examples and case studies, the event will examine how NbS can be integrated into existing funding streams and business models, helping to address the persistent financing gap affecting nature restoration and resilience initiatives.
Representing NATURANCE, Jaroslav Mysiak will present experiences linked to the project’s Italian Innovation Lab, innovative financing approaches, and the Common Warning and Alerting (CWA) framework, highlighting how nature-based solutions can be embedded within insurance and financial systems to strengthen resilience against climate-related risks.
Mysiak will also speak at the second EU Green Week partner event, “Financing nature-based solutions: pathways to scalable biodiversity restoration and nature-based entrepreneurship”, taking place on 23 June 2026 in Athens.
This second session will focus on the financial mechanisms needed to scale biodiversity restoration and ecosystem resilience initiatives. Bringing together policymakers, researchers, financial actors, practitioners, and public authorities, the discussion will explore how public finance, private investment, and blended finance approaches can mobilise resources for nature restoration while generating long-term environmental and economic benefits.
The programme will also address the role of nature-based solutions in insurance risk management, innovative financing instruments such as landscape enterprise networks, and practical capacity-building approaches supporting local authorities in accessing European and national funding opportunities for climate adaptation and resilience.
Through its participation in both events, NATURANCE will contribute to ongoing European discussions on scaling investment in nature-based solutions and integrating biodiversity considerations into economic and financial decision-making.
