NATURANCE at the UNFCCC Global Webinar “Navigating Rising Seas”

The webinar presented the newly released Technical Guide on Sea-Level Rise.

On 13 June 2025, the Executive Committee of the UNFCCC Warsaw International Mechanism (WIM) hosted the webinar “Navigating Rising Seas” to present the newly released Technical Guide on Sea-Level Rise, developed to support national and local responses to slow-onset climate events. To accommodate a global audience, the event was delivered in two sessions, adapted to different time zones and regional perspectives.

Friederike Eppen and Ashley Codner, members of the WIM ExCom, introduced the work of the Executive Committee and set the stage for ongoing efforts to address sea-level rise under the UNFCCC framework. Guest speakers included Christopher Bartlett (Senior Technical Adviser and Climate Negotiator, Republic of Vanuatu), Litiana Talake (Adaptation Policy Advisor, Tuvalu) and Andrew Ross (Director, Seascape Caribbean, Jamaica).

NATURANCE contributed to the Technical Guide, which highlights adaptation strategies, addresses slow-onset processes, and help close key knowledge gaps. Among the co-authors: NATURANCE’s coordinator Jaroslav Mysiak and Elisa Calliari (Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change, Italy), Mariya Ivanova Aleksandrova (German Institute of Development and Sustainability, Germany), Albert M. Salamanca (Stockholm Environment Institute Asia, Thailand), Akhilesh Surjan (Charles Darwin University, Australia).
