NATURANCE is working closely with Invest4Nature (I4N) project to build economic evidence supporting investment strategies and mechanisms for NbS. In particular, the two projects have developed synergies in exploring the insurance value of nature and the potential for NbS insurance-based mechanisms within the I4N Living Lab in Cascais (Portugal).
Cascais has implemented a river restoration project aimed at reducing flood risk in the city downstream. As part of the project, the effectiveness of the restoration has been estimated by comparing scenarios before and after the intervention, focusing on the reduction of direct economic damages to buildings and the population exposed.
This assessment links risk evaluation and NbS scenarios with strategies to foster NbS investment and insurance solutions. Insights and expertise from NATURANCE contribute to exploring tailored insurance opportunities for Cascais. As part of this collaboration, a workshop was held with the City of Cascais to further explore how insurance mechanisms could be applied to support the development and maintenance of NbS in the city.
