NATURETHON | Financing local NbS for lasting resilience
The third 2025 Naturethon webinar delves into insurance tools and financial strategies for Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Featuring insights from Lenka Slavikova, University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic, and Land4Climate project, and Jaroslav Mysiak, CMCC and NATURANCE project coordinator, the event offers Naturethon participants an overview of alternative financing systems and best practices in bottom-up NbS implementation, drawing on the expertise and outcomes of both projects.
The session will begin with Lenka Slavikova presenting the NbS Alternative Financing Guide, an interactive resource designed specifically for practitioners who are aiming to deploy NbS solutions in their communities. From municipalities and public authorities to NGOs, land managers, and private contractors, the document – developed in the context of the Land4Climate project – guides key stakeholders into expanding their financial efforts beyond public funding.
Next, Jaroslav Mysiak will present some of the NATURANCE’s results in bridging the gap between insurance and nature under changing climate conditions, highlighting financial tools that promote a local, collaborative, ecosystem-based approach to increase community resilience and preparedness.
The webinar will conclude with an interactive session, where Naturethon participants and groups will discuss financial strategies and key actors and stakeholders to support their Nature-based solutions proposals, exchange ideas, foster collaboration and finalize their project for real-world impact.
The first two Naturethon webinars featured a deep dive into key NbS and an overview of effective tools and engagement strategies to climate-proof local communities. Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of NbS benefits through expert contributions and success stories, designed to inspire the translation of concepts into action.

About the projects
NATURANCE is a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme. It will examine technical, financial and operational feasibility and performance of solutions that are built upon and combine disaster risk financing & investments with nature-based solutions.
Land4Climate is a EU-funded project that runs from 2023 to 2027, with the aim to deploy and demonstrate the practical application of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) on private land. By specifically focusing on implementing NBS on private land, LAND4CLIMATE supports transformative efforts to make Europe more resilient to issues caused by climate change, implementing and scaling innovative land policy strategies.
